"Saw 'em." From a rooftop. Fighting Iron Man, as a matter of fact. "Didn't get a chance to introduce myself personally."

He sounded vaguely disappointed.

[calmbeforethe]

It's hard to miss the disappointment in his voice. And so, equally dry: "I'm sure that either one of us will have a chance to, in the future." Even if she doesn't particularly relish that chance. It's a reality, after all.

[snikting]

"The war's brutal out there. I ain't seen anything like it since the big one." He meant, specifically, World War II. "And I ain't convinced the Mallies are winnin'."

[calmbeforethe]

Ororo was silent a few moments before she sighed and finally moved to sit beside him. She drew her knees close to her chest, wrapped her arms around them.

"Winning, losing... I just don't like this sort of fighting, Logan. It is one thing to be imprisoned and experimented on; but war, of this scale..."

[snikting]

He scooted to make some room, casting a concerned glance over at his long time teammate. He let out a breath, easing out some of the tension that was pretty common with him.

"That ain't even half of it." He turned his attention ahead. "Back home, Apocalypse made his move. Things'll probably be getting worse there than they are here."

Unlike Rogue and Kitty or any of the other kids, Ororo was one of those people that Logan wouldn't try to pretty up reality for. There were in a bad situation. She was one of those people who needed to know the way it was.

Ororo knew that Logan rarely sugarcoated things of this nature; it was something she was grateful for, really, since very few people would do that for her. It helped put things into perspective, and grounded her when her lofty ideals got the best of her.

She turned her attention back to Logan, the mention of Apocalypse alarming her a little more than all this talk of the Malnosso had.

"I'd forgotten you were from further on than I. What has Apocalypse done in your time? And what have we done in response?" Surely they're doing something. Back home it'd been a waiting game for Apocalypse. For there to be a development...

[snikting]

"He got the Professor. He tried to negotiate with him. Talk him down." He didn't need to finish spelling it out to indicate it went bad.

"We thought he was dead, like Magneto. But he's got the both of them, brainwashed and under his control. Mystique too. SHIELD even brought back the sentinels just to throw at 'em. Didn't accomplish nothin'."

[calmbeforethe]

"He took Charles?" She can't help the worry that laced her voice, or the alarming flash of lightning that splits the sky.

Yes, Logan had mentioned he was alive - but to be under a being like Apocalypse's control was no better. And with Erik and Mystique involved (alive!) -

"And what of us? How do we fight back? Surely we are doing something - anything."

[snikting]

There's no we, Ororo.

"We're mounting an attack. That's what. Throwin' everything we got at 'em. Callin' in anyone we can. Brotherhood, Magneto's flunkies, an' anyone who's got a chance of doin' some damage. Probably won't be enough." He knew that at best, they would be a diversion. And that some of them might not come home. It was a hard decision, but the sort Logan had learned to make. "Our ace in the hole? That's Rogue. An' a kid named Leech."

He was sure Ororo remembered him well enough.

[calmbeforethe]

"Dorian Leech? ... The child who joined the Morlocks." Ororo nodded, seeing how they could use that to their advantage. Part of her wants to protest, because Dorian was so young - so much younger than the rest of the X-Men - but if there was any truth at all to what Logan was saying, then they could not afford to take chances.

She stayed quiet a few moments, processing what she'd just learned. Then: "And then you came here to Luceti before you could see what would come of that plan?"

[snikting]

"Yeah. Just as we were packin' up to leave." Horrible timing. He was anxious to see it through. For good or bad.

"Kitty was already into the fight. When she was here, last anyway. It wasn't going so well for her."

[calmbeforethe]

Ororo frowned, suddenly hating the situation they were stuck in here more than ever.

"I know time works in strange ways here, but I'm anxious to return. We're needed, at home."

[snikting]

"It's a fight I'm itching to get back to, too."

If she was anxious, then Logan was downright beside himself with tension, waiting to throw himself into the only fight that really mattered.

[calmbeforethe]

Ororo took a moment to calm herself, taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly. If the air around them shifted a little from the resulting breeze, she paid it no mind.

"I suppose there's nothing we can do to change that, for the moment." Her mouth set in a firm line. "And that the most we can do now is be helpful here. Tell me about the missions you go on, Logan. Perhaps I will do the same."

[snikting]

"I've been on two. First one? Place called Sirry Crags. Fightin' those cultists. Place is infested with 'em. I was workin' with one of the Mallies, some Foreman guy. The rest of use were from enclosures. We weren't doing your typical military fightin'. We were on our own, pickin' em off when we could."

[calmbeforethe]

She frowned, not liking having to fight. But it was what they did as X-Men anyway.

"But you choose to go on these yourselves, do you not? The draft I had been on was assigned to us. Refusing had not been an option."

[snikting]

"Sitting in here ain't getting us anywhere, 'Roro. I figure, best chance we got? Do their dirty work, see what I can see. The people out there talk. Maybe they'll talk and say somethin' I can use."

[calmbeforethe]

Well, she could hardly deny the logic in that. "It's better than sitting around and waiting for things to happen."

[snikting]

"That's all there is to it. Do something or just wait. I ain't a waiter."

[calmbeforethe]

Generally, Ororo was a patient woman. But for some things, waiting wasn't enough.

"I don't think I can be much of a waiter myself either, in this instance." Missions it was, then.

[snikting]

"Neither's Rogue."

He didn't expect there to be lots of time for all of the X-Men to be in the house at the same time.

[calmbeforethe]

"Then it seems the three of us will be rather busy in the future." The X-Men are hardly content idle, anyway.

[snikting]

Seems so.

[But now he stands.]

'round now is when we usually eat. You comin'?

[calmbeforethe]

"Of course." Ororo nodded, getting up as well. "It will be nice, having dinner with both you and Kitty now here."

[snikting]

"Yeah, swell. Me an' a house full of women. That's gonna go well."
